"Our job is to get our teams a better job," said Derek Poultney, executive director of The C.R.E.W. "If they leave us, we see that as a success."

On the work itself, supervisor Reid Austin: "It's not glamorous work, but it's the kind that has to get done."

Why we're sharing it

Reid Austin spent two years as a crew supervisor pulling mustard, fennel and thistle in the Upper San Antonio Creek watershed and hauling lead fragments out of old shooting sites in the Los Padres National Forest with Los Padres ForestWatch. We could not have written a better job description for the program.
